Mission and Purpose of the PTA:

  • To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children.

  • To assist  in developing the skills they need to raise and  protect their children;

  • To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of the nation.

Purpose of the PTA

  • To promote the welfare of the children and youth in home, school, community and place of worship.

  • To raise the standards of home life.

  • To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.

  • To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers, may cooperate intelligently in the direction of children and youth.

  • To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social, and spiritual education.

National PTA Standards for Parent/Family Involvement

Standard I:   Communicating - Communication between home and school is regular, two-way, and meaningful.

Standard II:   Parenting - Parenting skills are promoted and supported.

Standard III:  Student Learning - Parents play an integral role in assisting student learning.

Standard IV:  Volunteering - Parents are welcome in the school, and their support and assistance are sought.

Standard V:   School Decision Making and Advocacy - Parents are full partners in the decisions that affect children and families.

Standard VI:  Collaborating with Community - Community resources are used to strengthen schools, families, and student learning.

The National PTA Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs and their quality indicators are research based and grounded in both sound philosophy and practical experience.  The purpose of the standards is threefold:

  • To promote meaningful parent and family participation

  • To raise awareness regarding the components of effective parent/family involvement programs

  • To provide guidelines for schools that wish to improve their programs
